Founded in 2021, Ramona's Children's Books is a website dedicated to promoting educational books and literature. I am a passionate writer and lover of good stories. Believe me I frequently have "sumthin to say"

I’m Ramona L. Thomas — an author, educator, and advocate who believes that stories have the power to connect, heal, and teach. My books blend culture, history, and social awareness, using food as a universal language to explore identity and celebrate heritage.

As the author of three children’s books—Kyndle Serves Up History: An International Day Soul Food Journey, Doctor Wizmagic’s Potion, and The Code Switch (co-authored with Yvetta “Doll” Franklin)—I strive to create stories that inspire children to embrace who they are while learning about the world around them. My work is rooted in the idea that curiosity, compassion, and culture go hand in hand.

The inspiration for my first book, originally titled Grandma’s Brown Cookies, came from a personal reflection about beauty, color, and value. I once thought brown eggs were inferior to white ones—and that thought reminded me of the historic “Doll Test Experiment” by Drs. Kenneth and Mamie Clark. It led me to realize that many people are taught, consciously or not, to see darker things as less valuable. Through my writing, I wanted to challenge that mindset. My goal is to help readers—especially children—see that what’s brown or dark is often rich, nourishing, and full of worth.

I earned an Associate of Arts degree from Contra Costa College, a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from California State University East Bay (formerly CSU Hayward), and a Master of Education from Holy Names University in Oakland, California. After building a successful career with a Fortune 500 business solutions company, I followed my heart back to education and literacy advocacy, where my passion for uplifting others through knowledge and culture became central to my life’s work.

Today, I’m honored to serve as Board Secretary for the Solano County Library Foundation and as Author Chair of the Foundation’s largest annual fundraiser, the Authors Luncheon. I’ve also served as a tutor through both the Solano County Library Literacy Program and the Alameda County “Right to Read” Program, helping adults gain confidence and joy through reading.

Beyond my work, I’m grounded by faith, family, and community. My husband and I have a beautifully blended family—his, mine, and ours—and we’re blessed with bright, healthy children. When I’m not writing or speaking, I enjoy hiking, reading, traveling, and finding inspiration in everyday life.

Through every story I write, I hope to teach historical truths, promote positive self-image, and inspire readers of all backgrounds to embrace the richness of culture and community.
